It’s no secret that highly successful people have a strict morning routine. While most of us are hitting snooze, these individuals have already completed their morning routine, exercised and started working towards their goals.
But, how do they do it? What is Michelle Obama’s secret to getting up at 5am? Why does Mark Zuckerberg wear the same outfit every day? Who really has time to meditate every morning?
The answer: Anyone who makes time and prioritises their goals.
It’s no secret that we all want an easy solution on how to do this. @Before5am, an inspiring Instagram page to seize the day and hit goals, has one million followers to prove this.
But how many times have you organised yourself on a Sunday night ready to make this Monday the week you’re going to change your life? Why is it that when the alarm goes off at 6am you hit snooze and roll over?
Well, it’s time to stop with the excuses. Time to stop with the lack of motivation and time to start changing your daily routine one morning at a time with these tips.
Get a good night sleep
If you only do one thing from this list, make sure it’s this. Getting seven to eight hours of sleep is the most important start to having a productive morning. Set yourself a relaxing bedtime routine where you limit screen time and practise self-care to ensure you are ready for a deep sleep.
Plan your outfit the night before
There’s nothing more unmotivating than not knowing what to wear as soon as you get up – whether that’s exercise gear or your work outfit. Save yourself the time in the morning and lay out your outfit the night before. It’s no coincidence that Mark Zuckerberg wears the same outfit every day – it’s a conscious decision so that he can keep decision making for the most important things.
Set your alarm out of reaching distance
We all know how easy it is to hit snooze while still in bed. Therefore, make yourself get up by putting your alarm somewhere you can’t reach. Not only will it force you to get up, it will give you that kickstart you need to get out of bed and start your day.
Know what you want to achieve
You need to know why you want to get up early. If you don’t have a purpose, then why would you want to get up? So, write down your goals and plan your morning, knowing exactly what you’re getting up for and why. Getting up to make your dreams happen is motivation enough.
Start with self-care
As self-help guru Tony Robbins said: “If you don’t have 10 minutes for your life, you don’t have a life.” Taking a few minutes each morning for yourself will help you stay focused and motivated. Whether it’s meditating, stretching or visualising your plan for the day, take a few moment just for yourself.
